Begging for More

While we try to ensure our dogs have good manners, there is one thing we really struggle with: begging.

We don't put a lot of work into this, mostly because it's always undone by a certain someone (ahem, Sam!).

Tesla is just as bad at begging, but will never steal off your plate.  Edison, on the other hand, will take the food right out of your hand!

Is your dog a beggar?  Do you allow it?

  1. Our dogs are HORRIBLE beggers! It's ridiculous and embarrassing when company is over. For years I have been solely blaming my husband since he is constantly feeding them from his plate. But, twice is the past couple weeks I have caught myself giving the dogs "treats" from mine. Granted, the first time it was some fruit and the second time it was vegetables, but does that really make it any better? I think not. In my mind I'm able to keep blaming my husband because I feel like I'm at least giving them healthy food and not potato chips or crust off pizza. (It's my story and I'm sticking to it). Let's just hope the hubby doesn't ever notice what I am doing :-)

  2. Kaya & Norman have never been allowed people food. I don't even let them eat stuff that has fallen on the floor. So begging is pretty much non-existent. I must say though that I was raised with a VERYgreedy Beagle who spent 90% of her time in the kitchen, always stared at you with giant starving eyeballs and would climb on the table to devour an entire meal if you turned your back SO we've been very strict with all our dogs since her in our family!

    1. So lucky! I was always really, really good with Tess, but since Sam has come into the picture, it's game over.

  3. Boomer and Dottie are horrible beggars and will steal your food if you're not looking!

    1. That's Edison. Tess will go over and sniff it, but she'd never take it. She'll sit and stare at you while you eat the whole time though!

  4. Omigsoh, if I saw those faces I'd give them all my food. My boys are pretty good (after a LOT of training) but they struggle from time to time. I always remind myself that they have smelling powers that we do not and for them, it must be REALLY hard not to be invested in begging.
