PEDs: Controlled Chaos

This week our walking group welcomed two new members to our walk (welcome Lilly & Bones!).  of course, with new additions comes new energy.

As our group has grown, we have welcomed a number of new members.  But usually one at a time.  With a few new dogs, it seemed like the group was out of step with one another.

Of course, that's to be expected.  As we grow, we become a new pack.  Our pooches (and humans!) have to find their groove together and figure out what works for each other.  The beauty is that our group rolls with the punches and keeps on walking!

Those of you that walk with groups, how do you handle new members?

  1. There were some chaotic moments...but as you said it was very controlled. And of course totally expected! And I think everyone worked through it well. Good job to all- you are all great dog parents!! Such a an awesome group of dog lovers you have assembled!! And you do a wonderful job of making sure everyone stays safe and feels comfortable! Thanks for all you do :)

    1. Definitely controlled chaos! You're totally right -- our group handles walks like yesterday's SO well. Good job to you, too! We know the gremlin noises can be tough, but we try to remember that everyone else things they're cute (or at least that's what we tell ourselves!).

  2. Since we're still growing everyone is a new member. But, in the future when someone new joins I think it's best for the person leading the pack to know what the issues are the dog and handler are having so you'd know where they should fit in the line up for the walk. After all, we want everyone to succeed and have a good time!

I do have a question for you... what are you using to "advertise" your walks. Do you have a facebook group? Are you using MeetUp? I'm not finding anything to be super successful.

    1. I talked a little bit about this in this post:

Basically, I have let the group grow organically. I had a successful dog business here on board and she told many, many people about our group as she came across people that she thought would benefit. As we're getting more recognition, other dog businesses (daycares, trainers, etc.) are finding out about us and referring people.

We do have a Facebook page which is how we mostly communicate at this point. We post our walks there as well as our blog posts on Mondays.

Let us know if you have anymore questions!! We're so excited for you guys! Feel free to email us

    2. Thanks, we've only got one walk under our belt so far but 2 more are planned. It's really exciting to see it grow and meet new people. I'll make sure to email if I have any other questions!
