60 Day Walking Challenge - Halfway!

Last month, we realized that we had been seriously slacking on our structured walks.

So we began a 60 day walking challenge to get us back on track.  Each morning (sometimes late morning on weekends), we leash up the pooches and take them for a walk.

Unfortuntely, we don't have time to go too far.  However, our 20 minute walks have not only provided structure and routine to the dogs, but to the humans, too.

In the past 30 days (well, technically 29), we have only missed 2 times (and twice just walked with Tess).

We've definitely seen an improvement in Tesla's walking and our walks have uncovered some new issues with Ed that we now know we need to work on.  So if you see a crazy lady riding a bicycle up and down the same block, you'll know why.

Have you gotten back into a routine now that the weather is turning?  Have you noticed any changes in your pooches?

  1. I was walking Lainey twice a day from February until the end of April and then she had another surgery. Unfortunately, she has been on bed rest since May 1st so we have gotten out of the routine (and mama can sure see a difference). Hopefully, after Monday we can start up again. Lord knows that Lainey needs the stimulation and mama could stand to get her butt off the couch :)

  2. We spent too much time this winter cuddled on the sofa in blankets and our winter layer of blubber. Now that it is nice we are playing outside (structured and free play) for longer periods of time. I need to stop saying I need to walk more and just walk more.

    1. Ditto!! That's what we kept doing! But we also love our structured play in the yard (flirt pole!!!) -- it wears out the pooches so well!

  3. haha does Ed have a problem with bikes? Athena did when we first brought her home, but thank goodness that went away pretty quickly (probably because we live in Portland where everyone and their brother travels by bike). Athena has a MAJOR problem with skateboards....ah!

    1. He didn't before, but the past few walks it seems he has. The other thing I was thinking about today is that we've been taking the same route pretty much every morning, with the exception of a few days. He's a territorial dog -- so maybe he's just starting to take it has "his"?? If that's the case, I want to nip it in the bud before it does become a "thing."

  4. When the weather is nice we walk a lot but when it's cold we slack a little bit too much. Since we're coming out of winter and our slacking we've noticed some problems such as leash pulling and getting distracted around other dogs so we have some work to do!

    1. Ugh, so do we. After a few hours of shoveling snow (yuck, I can't even bare to think of it!), I hate the thought of walking through someone else's unshoveled walks. We're definitely uncovering a few things, but we've seen some really great improvements over the past 30 days!
