What's in a Name?

People often come up to us and ask what breed Tess and Ed are.  Most people think they are sibling boxers.  Our typical answer is “Edi is an American bulldog/boxer mix and Tess is a pitbull/boxer mix, but who really knows.”

Sometimes I get “well, she could pass for a boxer if you wanted.”  Sure, she could.  But because Tess is so good, I love rep’ing pitbulls with her.
In all reality, both dogs are pitbulls.  And there's no denying it (not that we would!)

I love Ken Foster’s definition from I’m a Good Dog: Pitbulls, America’s Most Beautiful (and Misunderstood) Pet

"A pitbull is exuberant, affectionate, loyal, block-headed, athletic, ridiculous, occasionally stubborn, challenging, rewarding, and loved.  A pitbull is American, and like most Americans these dogs are a jumble of DNA and contradictions, which is, naturally, what pit bull lovers love most about their dogs."

Sound familiar?

  1. Ha! Last picture cracks me up. You are very right about the whole what is a pit bull debacle:)

  2. I love that definition. I've been wanting to readthat book but just haven't ordered it yet.

    1. I highly recommend. I love Ken Foster's books, and this one is no disappointment. It's a great (and quick!) read!!

  3. That is a great definition! I used to think of Hades as pit bull/shar pei. I still think he has shar pei in him but more lately we keep thinking he might have some kind of bulldog in him. At first I was like, is my first pit bull not even a pit bull? Who knows, people always guess that he is a pit bull, and that makes him a pit bull. I'm sure he has at least a smidge in there. =)
Where did you get those shirts in the first picture? Adorable! Your dude has a great smile that shows off his cute little teefers!

    1. Haha, we think Tess could potentially be a boxer/beagle mix. I thought the same thing about her

The shirts are by Zach & Zoey - we got these ones from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0014M30SM/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00), but we've also gotten them from BaxterBoo.com.

Also, I can't believe you noticed his teeth...that's my favorite part of him -- and I call them his "little teefers"!!
